We have had some bitterly cold and very windy days here of late. Painting springtime chicks for Easter seemed like a good idea. 🙂 I’m using my Strathmore toned tan paper art journal and Mungyo Gallery oil pastels. I also used a charcoal pencil and my Prismacolor colored pencils for some of the finer detail. I love using this paper, as it is easy to blend the pastels.
Below are some step-by-step photos. I didn’t make a full length video of this painting, but there is a short YouTube video below. As we get ready to head into the new year, I pray that we will have health, wisdom, and peace!

Using interesting colors like yellow greens for the shadows is fun! Don’t be afraid to experiment with color. The Mungyo Gallery oil pastels have some of my favorite greens.
