Oil Pastel Dove Painting

I love painting birds! They are not always realistic, but every now and then, they are relatively close. :) I love how this dove-like bird came out! I used my colored pencils for an underpainting, then finished with oil pastels. Oil pastels bring a creamy texture to paintings with wonderful color vibrancy. Just be sure to seal you final painting, as the pastels can take a long, long time to dry (if ever). :) I like the different effects you can get with oil pastels, from a palette ... View the Post

Watercolor Succulent Painting

I grabbed my watercolors and painted this succulent, using only a few colors. I love the greens and sepia colors together. I'm using my watercolor art journal with Rosa Gallery watercolors. I wanted to hone in and work on the values and tones. There is the tiniest bit of colored pencil, but I really did try to keep to just watercolors. :) I created this seamless pattern that I will get in the shop sometime. This would make great fabric! ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Winter Bunny Rabbit Painting

Snow is falling here on this first day of 2025. Happy New Year! I hope your year is filled with creativity and wonder! I painted this sweet little bunny in oil pastels. I started with a colored pencil underpainting on Strathmore toned paper. The first picture shows some of the underpainting, and the second picture show the finished bunny. You can see how much oil pastels can add in creaminess and texture! Create in 2025 for a stronger, well-exercised mind and good health! ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Mixed Media Owl Painting & VIDEO

This creature is a bit quirky and fun! Check out the VIDEO below to see the painting process. I started out thinking I would paint in one medium, then ended up with oil pastels. It is hard to beat their creamy texture and bright colors! I'm creating in my watercolor journal, as I was intending this to be almost entirely of watercolor. Sometimes, you don't always know where your painting session will take you. ... View the Post

White Uni-Ball Signo Pen & VIDEO

This post is out late because I forgot what day it was! :) That is what happens to me when the holidays and vacation get me out of my routine. I am a bit hopeless, in that I find it hard to function outside of my schedule. Is anyone else like that? Please say that I am not alone. :) Today, I have a video for these drawings using Arteza black drawing paper with a Uni-Ball White Signo Pen. I love the opacity, and they are fairly smooth. It is like reverse doodling, and they would make quick ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Penguin Painting

We just returned from spending a week in Miami, where the temperatures were in the upper 70s. Now, it is 27 degrees as I write this. Yikes! I thought this winter penguin would be appropriate. :) I love his matching sweater and hat. Even the penguins would be cold in my state! :) I used colored pencils for the underpainting and my oil pastels on top for creamy texture. I love using Strathmore's toned tan paper with oil pastels! It doesn't seep through, and the colored paper sets off the ... View the Post
