This painting is done in a very different style than I usually gravitate towards. The background is very abstract (and dare I say, has a 1990s feel), with bits of gold by using Sennelier’s Iridescence set of oil pastels. It was fun to try in my Strathmore toned tan paper journal. The beauty of art journals is that there is a place to experiment and explore with art supplies.

Oil pastels are great for mark-making in conjunction with paints as well! I have mostly used Artecho and Paul Rubens pastels in this little painting. I love the texture and little “chunks” of pastels that give character to a piece.
