This bright and cheerful palette is bold during a time of season where botanical life has not yet bloomed. Sometimes, we must paint our blooms when we are impatient. I have my favorite Strathmore toned tan paper for this oil pastel painting. I used a Sennelier bronze for the final details. I LOVE their metallics!
One of my favorite oil pastel styles is to have a creamy, smeary background with more textured foreground (in this case, the flowers). Tape off the edges for a nice clean finish! There are certainly other techniques, but this style is what I gravitate toward. What is your favorite way to use pastels?

I wish my paintings were huge! 🙂 It’s nice to be able to imagine them as being so. 🙂 And I wouldn’t mind these walls and couch. 🙂
