The hoopoe is such an interesting bird! They are colorful and have a “crown” that they can raise and lower. Sadly, we don’t have these in Michigan, but what fun they are to paint! I’ve used Artecho oil pastels in my Strathmore toned tan paper journal. I didn’t add a background this time, but the oil pastels were perfect for the bits of colors in the feathers. You can use colored pencils for the small detail work.
