I grew up with Morgan horses and they are the best animals! They are beautiful, strong, graceful, practical, and loyal. Horses are one of my favorite animals in the Lord’s creation. I have a video at the bottom of this post for the painting process. I used oil pastels and colored pencils for this guy. I love using Strathmore’s toned tan paper for oil pastels and colored pencils. It is smooth, yet strong enough to hold media that isn’t too saturated with water.
The photo below is the quick sketch that I made with a charcoal pencil. You can do an underpainting with colored pencils, or just dive in with your pastels. 🙂
This palette is earthy and buttery. 🙂
