I love history! There are so many stories in the lives and events before us. Shipwrecks are one of those interesting (though tragic) events that we can learn from. Our family loves to visit museums if we are near one on vacation.
I was recently reading about a North American shipwreck that was caught in the ice during an attempt to find a trade route. It inspired me to paint this, as the story stuck with me for weeks. I chose oil pastels, adding Sennelier bronze for some details. I used my Strathmore toned tan art journal, as I love the paper! I also decided to do a colored pencil underpainting. Sometimes, it can be a big help to block in the color. There is a VIDEO at the bottom of the post!
