Sometimes, I like to change it up by painting on black. I used my art journal by Dyan Reaveley, which is square and has great quality paper. Oil pastels and colored pencils work beautifully on this sturdy paper. I used these painted motifs to create a surface pattern design that can be purchased in wallpaper or fabric at Spoonflower. I love the dramatic impact that a black background delivers! I have a process video at the bottom of this post.
