Water Soluble Oil Pastel Painting (Tutorial Video)

I really love how this painting came together! I started with watercolors for the stems and leaves, then switched to Portfolio and Ha Shi oil pastels for the rest. Because these oil pastels are water soluble, they are easy to blend as you are painting! I collaged several of the flowers together, along with some of my painted birds, for a lovely motif that I used to create seamless patterns. ... View the Post

Mixed Media Parakeet Drawing & Video Tutorial

Colored pencils work really well on Strathmore Toned Tan paper. I've drawn this parakeet in mostly colored pencil, with a bit of Caran D'Ache Neocolors, and my faithful white Posca paint pen. :) I love the bright colors. They are cheerful birds! At the bottom of the post, there is a video tutorial! Here are some ephemera and patterned papers that I created with this parakeet. ... View the Post

HIMI Gouache Blue Floral Painting & VIDEO TUTORIAL

You have seen several HIMI gouache posts in recent months because the jelly cup style is so easy to use! I made some card backgrounds (5 x 7 inch or 4.25 x 5.5 inch). Strathmore's toned tan paper takes the gouache well, as you don't have to add a lot of water to use it. I have also created seamless patterns for digital paper and fabric! VIDEO BELOW! ... Water Soluble Oil Pastel Floral Video Tutorial

The water soluble option in the oil pastel world, is great for mixed media artists! Dipping the tip of the pastel in water, then applying to paper, results in a blendable, creamy stick of color. Here, I have used Portfolio and Ha Shi Aquarelle brands. They are both very economical and great on a variety of surfaces. I have used this floral to create a seamless pattern to be used as paper, wallpaper, and fabric! I love that you can easily blend these oil pastels with just a little ... View the Post

Distress Pencils & VIDEO

The Distress line of colors from Ranger Ink were some of my first paper crafting products back in 2016. I love the range of colors and ink formulations. I am a little late with reviewing the Distress pencils (their version of watercolor pencils), sets 1-3. I have a video below, so check that out! :) I have been using Lyra Aquarelle sticks, Inktense pencils, and Caran D'ache for some time. I would not consider the Distress pencils of the same quality, but I do think there is a valid place ... View the Post

Plant in Colored Pencils & Pastels (VIDEO)

Here is a painted mixed media plant in mostly colored pencils and water soluble oil pastels. There is a VIDEO below, so make sure to get to the end of the post. :) I created on Strathmore Toned Tan paper, cutting it to an A2 card size. Of course, I created a surface pattern for paper and fabric! ... View the Post
