Fluffy Flowers in a Vase Oil Pastel Painting & VIDEO TUTORIAL

Here is another oil pastel painting on toned tan paper. I love the bright, happy colors! I can't grow flowers very well, so I pant them. :) Floral arrangement pictures are a great inspiration for color and composition. There is a video tutorial at the bottom of the post! I love creating seamless patterns for paper crafting and fabric design! ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Purple Flower Painting on Toned Tan Paper

Ah, oil pastels! Their creamy and textural goodness is hard to resist. :) I love the layered colors and oil paint look without the messy brush clean-up. I've used my favorites, Mungyo and Paul Rubens. Check out the pattern design toward the end of the post! Strathmore's Toned Tan paper can hold up to a wide variety of media, so long as it is not too saturated with water. Oil pastels work beautifully on it! ... View the Post

Tombow Markers Painting of a Lady & VIDEO TUTORIAL

Tombow watercolor brush pens are a diverse art supply! I created this lady in my Strathmore watercolor art journal (video is at the bottom of post). Markers are great for travel, they have two tip styles, they can be used as drawing tools, then later activated, and the list goes on. The color selection is great! I love to scribble them on a stamping block, then spray with water to use as paint. They are great for card makers as well, as they can color in the tight spaces of stamped ... View the Post

Mixed Media Walrus Painting & VIDEO

In the spirit of adorable sea animals, I bring you a walrus! :) I painted him in mostly watercolor and oil pastels. There is also a touch of colored pencil and a bit of a white Posca paint pen as well. I started painting by using a wet-on-wet technique, dropping in various neutral browns, reds, and grays. Once that dried, I decided to layer oil pastels and used colored pencils for the finer details. Check out the video on YouTube below, as well as a walrus pattern available in fabric ... Oil Pastel Painting on Watercolor Block

Watercolor paper can be a great surface for oil pastels, especially when there is an underpainting done in watercolor. I used this watercolor block for this colorful floral arrangement. I've used Paul Rubens and Mungyo oil pastels here (not the water soluble type). The creamy pastels layer beautifully! I have over a thousand videos on my channel to get you going. Here is a seamless pattern created from this painting, as well as a recent floral painting done in watercolor and water ... View the Post

Gouache Florals in a Vase Painting & VIDEO

I grabbed my box of HIMI gouache painted and filled a vase with flowers! It's simple, but a great painting exercise. I drew the vase with a Micron-type pen. I used the gouache straight from the paint pots, but also watered some down to create the wash below the vase. Gouache is versatile, so don't be afraid to try techniques. Check out the video below! VIDEO BELOW! ... View the Post
