Peaceful Ocean Sailboat with Soft Pastels

I have always loved the water. It is powerful and peaceful at the same time. Though this piece has a bit of bleeding and a tear, I still love it! Soft pastels are so easy to use and leave wonderful texture! Below are some of the steps to achieve this end. Of course, you can use pastel paper, but I have found that decent watercolor paper also provides great “tooth” for the pastels.

Blocking in the basics.
Trying to get some texture in the sky and waves.
Darkening the horizon line and adding the sailboat.
C’est fini!
