There are days when I feel like I can only paint simple shapes. Sometimes, our creativity is spent, but then refreshed with simple things. I taped off my square art journal and used watercolors to paint squares and rectangles. After the initial layer dried, I went back in with more layers and doodled with my white gel pen. Fun! There is a short video at the bottom of the post. 🙂

Go in with more of the same color for a tone-on-tone effect!

A white gel pen is fun to use for doodling!

I removed the tape for clean edges. Voila!
It doesn’t look like much, but it was a creative exercise, and I got a great pattern design for my fabric shop. 🙂
