Sometimes, it is easier for me to paint on a card than stamp an image correctly. :) I feel like I am a little "stamping challenged" at times. I like to keep a box of A2 card blanks around, so I thought I would tape off the front a paint a night scene. It didn't come out quite how I was envisioning, but the method was fun and worked well. The cards are a good cardstock weight and held up well to the HIMI gouache. I splattered some gold paint for good measure! :) ... View the Post
White Tiger on Black & VIDEO
White tigers are beautiful! I thought I would try a whimsical tiger using my Artsy metallic watercolors on Legion black watercolor paper. I love the iridescent effect! I started with a simple tiger-shaped base with the metallic watercolor, then layered a few other colors for texture. For bold detail, I used a black acrylic paint pen. Video below! I put this onto an A2 card base. It's great for a masculine card! ... View the Post
Metallic Watercolor Cheetah or Leopard? VIDEO
I had fun using my Artsy metallic watercolors to paint this cheetah-leopard. :) I can never remember how to tell them apart. I was inspired by this book! Painting animals is fun and a great way to practice, since the animal kingdom has such a variety of shapes and colors. Check out the video below! ... View the Post
Inktense White & Purple Flowers
Do you find it hard to paint white flowers? I do! With the exception of painting on my favorite toned tan paper, white flowers can be hard to get right. I thought I would use my Derwent Inktense pencils, since they are easy to control and even lines can be vibrant when activated with water. To be fair, these flowers aren't completely white. I was trying to get a mostly white, light, airy look. I need more practice, but I like how it looks. ... View the Post
Wisteria Strathmore Postcard & Video
These Strathmore postcards are great for a quick painting and sending a note to a friend! I used a couple of colors from my Prima Marketing Art Philosophy Vintage Pastels for the soft purples and blues. I dropped in my favorite Winsor & Newton Gold. It's so shimmery! You can use a fixative to protect the watercolor in the mail. You can also use a clear gesso if you are careful and the painting is completely dry. This was an easy, loose, wet-on-wet technique. Try it out! :) ... View the Post
Field of Flowers Watercolor Painting & VIDEO
Using my art journal and Rosa Gallery watercolors, I painted this calm field of flowers. I taped the page so that I would get clean edges and a satisfying "peel off"! :) Allowing your layers to dry lets you layer watercolor again and again. Art journals are a great way to create without pressure, paint your thoughts, try new products, and practice techniques! ... View the Post
