I love impressionistic botanicals, and these paintings were a relaxing exercise in just allowing the painting to naturally flow. I know that that sounds a bit weird and ambiguous, but sometimes we are so tense, we don’t allow the natural lines to be painted. Our art can be stiff and stuffy. All of that to say, these loose florals in oil pastels were a joy to paint-not because they are perfect, but because the were so relaxing.
I painted on Canson Graduate toned paper, taping off the edges for a clean finish. I mostly used Mungyo Gallery and Paul Rubens oil pastels. The paper has just enough “tooth” to help the pastels stay, while still allowing for creaminess!
