Watercolor Blocks in My Art Journal

There are days when I feel like I can only paint simple shapes. Sometimes, our creativity is spent, but then refreshed with simple things. I taped off my square art journal and used watercolors to paint squares and rectangles. After the initial layer dried, I went back in with more layers and doodled with my white gel pen. Fun! There is a short video at the bottom of the post. :) Go in with more of the same color for a tone-on-tone effect! A white gel pen is fun to use for ... View the Post

Two Oil Pastel Mini Landscape Paintings

We have had a lot of thunderstorms this summer! That was the inspiration for these two mini landscapes on Strathmore toned paper. I used mostly Mungyo Gallery and Mont Marte oil pastels, but grab what you have! Oil pastels are such a delight to use! When you create coordinating paintings, they will look great on a wall together! I love nature and houses, especially with so much of the painting being sky. Below, is a snapshot of some of my pastels. I just love to look at art ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Purple Flowers on Handmade Paper

This handmade vintage-style paper is lovely to use for many types of media. I'm using oil pastels today, and I suggest doing an underpainting with colored pencils or gouache. I have a video below of another painting using the same paper. I love the deckled edge and speckles the are naturally there. It adds texture, and is frame-ready! ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Pink Castle & Short Video

This castle is in the land of Not Structurally Sound. :) Thankfully, it doesn't matter on paper. It was fun to paint! I used mostly Artecho oil pastels with a few of my Paul Rubens Haiya pastels. I have a short video below! These fairytale colors are fun to use. I was using a reference photo of a castle with a wall coming towards the foreground and a quiet river flowing past. Don't be afraid of failure! Art must be created in order to improve at it. :) My Amazon store full of ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Butterfly & VIDEO

This may be another "Is this a butterfly or a moth?" moment. :) We will just go with butterfly today! I have used mostly Paul Rubens oil pastels in this painting on Strathmore toned paper. I have a video down below, so please check that out! I stock up on my toned papers, because I'm afraid the zombie apocalypse will start and I will run out without the means to get more! :) I added some gold touches with my Sennelier gold oil pastel. Dreamy! There are many days where it is considered a ... View the Post
