Trying the Oil Pastels Soho Paper Pad

I was trying out this oil pastel paper pad from Soho, and I created this quick flower arrangement on a table. You know that I love my Strathmore and Canson for oil pastels, so I was curious to see if I would like something that was actually marketed for oil pastels. 🙂 On the positive side:

I like that it comes in a square shape
The pages are perforated
There is a protective transparent sheet to keep your paintings from smudging on the next page (I LOVE this feature!)
140 pound weight paper

The down side:

I didn’t like it as much as my favorites, including the texture
I felt it was harder to make my creamy backgrounds, hurting my hand a bit. If this isn’t your style, it might work for you

In the end, it was fun to try, and I’ll definitely use it up. It comes in various sizes, but this 8 x 8 inch is a great size for me! I do love the Soho oil pastels, which are very creamy and have a lovely assortment of colors.
