I don't know what it is about painters and fruit, but we sure do like the still life exercises! :) The Lord made so many wonderful fruits (and tasty) with rich colors and textures, that make great subjects. I painted plums and oranges, and I have a YouTube short below. I love using Sennelier's iridescent oil pastels to add final details. They have an amazing shimmer in person! I used my trusty Strathmore toned tan paper. I love how it makes the color pop! I used mostly Mungyo Gallery ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Change Purses & VIDEO
I loved painting these! I'm going to make more for sure. :) I love these color palettes, and the adding of shimmer of Sennelier's iridescent oil pastels makes them a bit more special. I have a video below of the process, as well as my surface pattern design from these and some other recent paintings. VIDEO BELOW! I love creating surface pattern designs with my little paintings, and this color scheme is among my favorites! I also have a video for the green and pink ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Scenic Room Painting & Video
I love to look out my windows at the beauty of creation and quietness (hopefully) of the day. Somehow, it seems like time itself slows down in the midst of our hectic lives. I am using Strathmore toned paper and my Prismacolor colored pencils to block in color and complete a usable sketch. I love the bold color that appears when the oil pastels are added! I have a VIDEO below. :) It always looks so primitive in the beginning! The oil pastels are so bold, creamy, and almost have ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Colorful Whale Painting
I have always thought that the ocean was an amazing place. I went whale watching once, and they are such amazing creatures! I wanted to make my whale colorful, as at the time I was testing out Sennelier's iridescent oil pastel set (which is amazing). I started with a colored pencil underpainting, then added my oil pastels. I like using my colored pencils (or other medium) first, especially when there is a larger space to cover. It helps to fill in the tooth of the paper and makes layering the ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Moth Paintings & Pattern Design
I love painting moths! There are so many variations in their wings and fuzzy antennae. :) In the bug world, they are among my favorites (granted, the list of cute bugs isn't long). I also created a surface pattern design that can be seen in pictures below. I started with my Prismacolor colored pencils, then added the oil pastels. I also added the amazing Sennelier iridescent oil pastels. In person, the shimmer is amazing! I also included some watercolor moths that I painted a ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Shell with Pearl Painting & VIDEO
I was in the mood for shells, as I was looking at my box of beautiful Sennelier iridescent oil pastels. They really are gorgeous! I sketched out the shell on Strathmore toned tan paper. We were in Florida in December, and the kids found shells on the ocean beach. All their colors and striations are amazing to look at, and they feel so smooth from the constant water. We didn't find any pearls, though. :) VIDEO BELOW! I used my Prismacolor colored pencils to finish the drawing and ... View the Post
