This old stone cottage makes me think of Scotland. It's rugged, sturdy, and practical! There is something tempting about a more simple life. Life feels so noisy, and a lot of that noise feels vain and pointless. I want to be intentional. I always come back to flowers. I love painting many things, but flowers are colorful, cheery, and show a side to God that shows he loves beautiful things. Oil Pastel Tudor Lady Painting & VIDEO
I love history, so this lady was fun to paint in a Tudor-ish style. I have a VIDEO at the bottom of the post! I used my charcoal pencil on Canson toned paper with washi-taped edges. Oil pastels used: I made the background creamy by blending with my finger. I love the textural element that oil pastels bring to a painting. Build up layers! Mungyo Watercolor Crayons Mixed Media Painting
This set of Mungyo Watercolor Crayons is a decent replacement if you don't want to (or can't) invest in Caran D'Ache . A set of 40 in Caran D'Ache runs around $100, whereas the Mungyo set of 36 is about $28 at Walmart. I used them for the underpainting and left the bold background (see pics below) as is after being activated by water. Then, I used oil pastels for the lady, along with gold details with Sennelier. Oil Pastel Barn Landscape Painting & VIDEO
Limes, anyone? I had to try this fun palette to paint this barn landscape! :) Red barns are out, guys! I used Canson Graduate mixed media toned paper, which works beautifully with oil pastels. These colors are modern with a very traditional subject, so it's a great way to not venture too far out in left field if you are nervous about trying new palettes. Oil Pastel Koi Fish Painting & VIDEO
I wanted to paint something fishy. :) The colors and contrast of this fish with the water blues and greens is vivid. I mostly used Paul Rubens and Mungyo Gallery oil pastels, as well as my Sennelier gold for details and sparkly bits in the water. Oil Pastels work really well on this Canson toned paper.
