Oil Pastel Monet-Inspired Paintings and TWO VIDEOS

I was inspired by some Monet paintings one day as I was having a brain blockage. :) I was flipping through some art books, and the colors caught my eye. I got my trusty Strathmore toned paper art journal and taped off two small spots to paint side by side. Try it! I used Mungyo oil pastels, but grab what you have! They definitely need improvement, but they were so much fun to paint! Be sure to check out the TWO VIDEOS below! ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Peaceful Woods & VIDEO

Peace. It's what we are all after, isn't it? I think that is what draws me to nature and inspires me to paint it. It brings peace to try to recreate the gentle peace of nature. I've use a few brands of oil pastels (VIDEO BELOW), and I love the creamy texture they bring to a piece. We live in a hurried, upset world system that always wants us to be in a frenzy. Use art to give some health your mind and heart! I used my Prismacolor colored pencils for some of the sketching and tree detail. You ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Storybook Character Paintings

I am always tossing stories around in my head! Some have landed and been published, but many are still brewing. Oil Pastels are perfect for storybook illustrations. Their creaminess and texture gives a special look. This cat queen is shown in some pictures from sketching, to colored pencils, to the layering of oil pastels. I've included some other storybook paintings below of a mole, a cave, and princess. Get out your art journal and image away! I love Sennelier's iridescent oil ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Flowering Tree Landscape Painting

The trees are starting to bloom here in Michigan! The grass is thick and green and bunnies are everywhere. :) This little painting captures that spring bloom with the creaminess of oil pastels. It is painted in an impressionistic style, which gives the opportunity for chunks of color and strokes. I have a YouTube short below! I love greens and teals because they are peaceful colors. ... Art Journal Tree House Doodle

Sometimes, I just grab my art journal and keep it simple with a line art doodle drawing. This tree house could be colored with colored pencils or watercolor. I am starting to release some coloring pages and clip art-maybe this will join them! On days when you feel like keeping it minimal, or if you are traveling, doodle line art pages are just the thing! :) ... View the Post

Oil Pastel Mixed Media Gondola Painting

I was inspired by a photo of a gondola going down the little city rivers of Italy. This is a very simple version that starts with blocking in color with watercolors. I'm using my watercolor art journal. I intended to do the whole painting in similar media, but I just can't help grabbing those oil pastels. This is a very textured paper, so that shows through a bit. The following photos show a few of the many steps. As you add details, the painting goes from blobs of color to something ...
