I have been freshly milling my flour for a couple of years, but now I do it exclusively to battle an autoimmune disease in our family. To be honest, I prefer the taste of this real bread, and I love all the nutrients that we get from eating something so delicious! This hamburger bun recipe from Grains in Small Places is a favorite! I make the dough in my bread machine, and it turns out perfectly. The I use parchment and sheet trays to bake in the oven. I recently got a Brod & Taylor ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Teal Door Secret Garden & VIDEO
I love doors that lead to secret places, like beautiful and mysterious gardens! I loved reading The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and ever since, have loved the idea of a stone wall and locked doors. I painted this in oil pastels on Canson Graduate Mixed Media toned paper. I taped the edges with washi for a clean finish. Per usual, I used my colored pencils for some of the sketching and details. Using Sennelier gold for some of the finishing details always adds a touch of ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Rose Farm Landscape Painting & VIDEO
I have been enjoying painting simple landscapes, and for this painting, I limited myself to a specific rose-like palette. I used Artecho oil pastels along with my Prismacolor colored pencils for detail work and sketching. The Canson Graduate toned paper works really well holding up the creamy pastels. I have a VIDEO at the bottom of the post. :) Challenging yourself to use a more limited palette can boost creativity. Sometimes, too many choices can feel overwhelming and defeat you before ... Freshly Milled Crackers
Because of the need to follow an anti-inflammatory diet in our household, I have had to switch to exclusively freshly milled bread products, including breads, crackers, pastas, and muffins. Of course, this is healthy to do in any case, but I have been replacing things over the last few months. I have found Michal Grappe's website extremely helpful among others, and this cracker recipe was easy and delicious! The recipe uses coconut sugar and soft white wheat for a tender crumb. You could ... View the Post
Mermaid Tail Painting in Oil Pastels & VIDEO
This painting was a bit out of the norm for me, but I wanted to try the Sennelier silver oil pastel with fish scales, which led to a mermaid's tail. :) I used Canson Graduate mixed media toned paper that I taped with washi for clean edges at the finish. This paper works wonderfully with oil pastels! I also used my Prismacolor colored pencils for some detail work. The VIDEO is at the bottom of the post! ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Stone Cottage Painting & VIDEO
This peaceful painting on Strathmore toned tan paper is my ideal stone cottage surrounded by abundant florals. The peaceful, simple life is often what we want in a chaotic world. I have a mansion being prepared in Heaven by the best Creator ever known, but in the meantime, I'll have to settle for painting a quiet place. I mostly used Mungyo Gallery and Paul Rubens oil pastels. At their price point, they both deliver in color and creaminess! Some people like the city, but I am NOT one of ... View the Post
