There are days when I just want to randomly doodle. I grabbed my Strathmore toned tan paper and oil pastels and just started putting down colors and lines to see what would happen. :) I ended up loving these as elements in my surface pattern design that I use for digital downloads and fabric at Spoonflower and Raspberry Creek fabrics. Don't underestimate your random doodles on these days that you don't feel very productive! Of course, you can do this with any art supply, but my oil pastels ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Farm Landscape in Coral & VIDEO
I love corals and pinks! Recently, I featured a landscape in a purple palette. This is my coral palette. It was a fun challenge limiting myself to fewer colors. I'm glad, for example, this Artecho oil pastel set has a lot of amazing colors, but there are days when too many choices can feel overwhelming. I'm using my trusty Strathmore toned tan paper, edges taped with washi. You know I have to have a fence in the foreground. :) I like the contrast of the creamy sky with more textural moments ... Crayola Twistables: Found in Studio!
I was rummaging through my art studio and happened upon these Crayola Twistable Rainbow crayons. I have a whole set, but this is all I could find. I purchased mine about 8-10 years ago for my kids for home schooling art class. They are so much fun to use! They are perfect for those sketchbook days where you don't really have a plan. They are a bit unpredictable (which is, of course, part of the fun). Check out the pictures! :) I thought that I had made a video swatching these out, ... View the Post
Great Electric Tortilla Press!
Because of an autoimmune disease, I have to make every bread product from freshly milled grains. It tastes better anyway and is so good for you! Tortilla dough has been one bread item that I had to try a few different recipes beforeI settled on a favorite. You can make this dough so easily in the bread machine using the dough cycle! I love my bread machines. :) Of course you can cook these in a hot, dry skillet, but my cooktop is often full. I use this electric tortilla press and love it! I have ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Still Life Bowl of Fruit & VIDEO
Every artist needs to paint the proverbial still life bowl of fruit. :) It's a right of passage. Seriously, it is a great way to practice color, shapes, and value. I'm using my favorite Strathmore toned tan paper journal and taped off the edges for a clean finish. I have a video at the bottom of the post, so be sure to check it out! Nature has the best colors, textures, and shapes! I love organic things and never get tired at the miracle of creation. What is your favorite subject to paint? I ... View the Post
Do I Still Love These?
Almost every artist was trying acrylic markers from a few brands. Mostly, Arrtx. Was it a fad, or are they here to replace Posca? I have to say that I still love them. They are so easy to use in a sketchbook when you want gouache-like opacity with a matte finish. I have a few videos on my channel featuring acrylic markers, and one is at the bottom of the post. I still love my white Posca? Can anything separate us? :) But for all the other colors in the world, I think these are brilliant and ... View the Post
