Watercolor & Oil Pastel Painting with VIDEO!

I pulled out my dagger brush from Simply Simmons to create most of the leaves you see behind the central flower. (video tutorial below) I used water soluble oil pastels for the flowery parts. My favorites are from Portfolio and Ha Shi Aquarelle. Oil pastels and watercolors work well together! The dagger brush was perfect to create broad strokes. I love creating seamless patterns for paper and fabric! ... View the Post

Loose Watercolor Florals with Jane Davenport Palette & Video

I like to rotate my watercolor palettes. This (pictured later in the post) is one of Jane Davenport's palettes that she released a few years ago. It has rich, ocean-like colors and tones. I wasn't feeling well, so I painted a quick, loose floral in my Strathmore visual watercolor journal. It is amazing how helpful it can be to our minds to even paint for a short time! Check out the video tutorial below! ... View the Post

Easy Instant Pot Great Northern Beans & VIDEO

Cooking dry beans in the Instant Pot is very, very easy! I have a video tutorial below. :) I purchased my beans from Azure Standard. The price for organic, non-GMO beans is great. I have found that one pound of dry beans, cooked, will give you the equivalent to three cans of beans from the store. It is MUCH cheaper to cook them yourself. ... View the Post

Water Soluble Oil Pastel Painting (Tutorial Video)

I really love how this painting came together! I started with watercolors for the stems and leaves, then switched to Portfolio and Ha Shi oil pastels for the rest. Because these oil pastels are water soluble, they are easy to blend as you are painting! I collaged several of the flowers together, along with some of my painted birds, for a lovely motif that I used to create seamless patterns. ... View the Post

Mixed Media Parakeet Drawing & Video Tutorial

Colored pencils work really well on Strathmore Toned Tan paper. I've drawn this parakeet in mostly colored pencil, with a bit of Caran D'Ache Neocolors, and my faithful white Posca paint pen. :) I love the bright colors. They are cheerful birds! At the bottom of the post, there is a video tutorial! Here are some ephemera and patterned papers that I created with this parakeet. ... View the Post

HIMI Gouache Blue Floral Painting & VIDEO TUTORIAL

You have seen several HIMI gouache posts in recent months because the jelly cup style is so easy to use! I made some card backgrounds (5 x 7 inch or 4.25 x 5.5 inch). Strathmore's toned tan paper takes the gouache well, as you don't have to add a lot of water to use it. I have also created seamless patterns for digital paper and fabric! VIDEO BELOW! ...
