In light of Christmas, we watched The Nativity Story movie, which focuses on Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and the great faith that they showed in trusting God. This desert painting reminds men of those that traversed afar during the Lord's first couple of years to visit him and give rich gifts to such a great King! I mostly used Artecho oil pastels, adding shimmery Sennelier silver for details. I painted on Canson mixed media paper in this lovely cream color. I taped the edges off ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Swatches & Sets
If you have gift cards to use and want some oil pastels, here are the swatches of three of my sets. I swatched them in my Art Talens art journal, which has great paper! They are all similar, creamy and colorful! First up is Paul Rubens Haiya set of 72. There is a great selection of colors and are very creamy. They serve me well! Next up is my set of 48 Mungyo Galley. I loved these so much that I bought the set of 72 in the wooden box. They are fantastic! Mungyo makes ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Gazebo Landscape Painting & VIDEO
Using my Strathmore toned tan art journal, I painted a pastel colored gazebo landscape. It is a light palette with fun colors! There is a video at the bottom of the post. I love the lightness and simplicity in this painting. I mostly used Artecho oil pastels and a few colored pencils for details here and there. Look at the mess! :) I love piles of art supplies. To me, they are lovely sticks of potential. Have you tried oil pastels? Here is a mockup for fun. I love the look ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Pressed Flower Necklace Painting
I love jewelry, so I think it's a great art prompt for painting. :) I used my Strathmore toned paper art journal and mostly Artecho oil pastels. I did use my lovely Sennelier bronze for the metal details. I wanted the pendant to be clear with pressed flowers. It was a fun and quick painting. I have a short video below. You can use colored pencils for the smaller details. What do you love to paint? I definitely gravitate towards flowers and nature, but I enjoy other things as well. In the ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Shipwreck Painting & VIDEO
I love history! There are so many stories in the lives and events before us. Shipwrecks are one of those interesting (though tragic) events that we can learn from. Our family loves to visit museums if we are near one on vacation. I was recently reading about a North American shipwreck that was caught in the ice during an attempt to find a trade route. It inspired me to paint this, as the story stuck with me for weeks. I chose oil pastels, adding Sennelier bronze for some details. I used my ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Blush Magnolia Floral on Black & VIDEO
Every now and then, I like to paint on black paper for a little extra drama. Oil pastels do really well on thick drawing paper. This simple palette is timeless and elegant. I love the Sennelier bronze and gold to add special details. :) I have a video at the bottom of the post! Some black base alternatives are these tags, this smaller pocket size art journal by Ranger Ink, and this Strathmore mixed media black paper. Check out the video below! ... View the Post
