A black Stabilo pencil (they do make them in other colors), is an inexpensive tool for drawings, or adding to mixed media canvas art and collage. It's like a powerful watercolor pencil! It can be used on a variety of surfaces, which makes it perfect for mixed media artists. Below, I used it by itself in my sketchbook for a couple of simple faces. VIDEO & SUPPLIES BELOW! ... Mixed Media Blue Flower & Video
I drew this flower on watercolor paper. I used various inks, and layered the color with the wet-on-wet method. Once everything was dry, I drew over the design again with a waterproof black pen and Posca acrylic paint pens. I often scan these small paintings and create design papers to use in papercrafting projects. CHECK OUT THE VIDEO BELOW! ... View the Post
Gouache Lion
Gouache can be a fun and versatile medium. It is like watercolor, but with opacity. It's matte finish also gives a distinct look from painting with the glossiness of acrylics. Gouache is great for layering! I painted this folk art lion, as inspired by the book Imagine a Forest. This book is inspirational and full of great information. YOUTUBE SHORT ... View the Post

Then, I used watercolors and colored pencils. It took about five minutes, but it helped end a creative block. Try it out! :) YOUTUBE SHORT ... View the Post
Dylusions Journal and Oil Pastels
This Dylusions journal from Ranger features high quality black paper that can hold mixed media fun! The underpainting was done with acrylic and gouache, then topped with oil pastels. Bold, opaque colors are perfect for this paper. I like the square shape and sturdy cover that can also be painted. If you use oil pastels, I recommend inserting some parchment or tracing paper over the painting when closed. That way, the colors won't transfer or smudge. YOUTUBE SHORT ... View the Post
