I love teapots, and I love flowers! Vintage teapots are a lovely place to put some flowers. :) I was inspired by a vintage teapot that I saw in a magazine, and I thought it would look lovely painted on black paper. Oil pastels work so nicely on quality paper of all sorts! I used Artecho, Paul Rubens, and Sennelier oil pastels. Here is the fun palette of colors! Corals and blues, with a touch of gold will cheer anyone up. :) The Artecho set has a lot of very light colors! One ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Floral Necklace & VIDEO
This was a quick, fun painting in my Strathmore toned tan art journal. I love vintage jewelry, so painting a pressed flower pendant seemed the way to go that say in my studio. There is a VIDEO at the bottom of the post for the painting process in action! I mostly used Artecho oil pastels in this painting. In their large set, they include metallics and neon colors. If you are looking for oil pastel inspiration, I have many videos on my channel! :) Here is my basic palette. You don't ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Living Room Painting
I was obsessed with houses as a kid, interior decor and the architecture. I love practical art forms, and houses are the perfect catalyst for useable design. I sketched in my Strathmore toned tan paper art journal. Oil pastels and colored pencils work so well together! Maybe you can snag some great sales this week! I mostly used Artecho in this piece. They are creamy and have a great price point. The array of color choices is great too! :) Here are a few step-by-step photos, and there is a ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Wildflowers on Black & VIDEO
Sometimes, I like to change it up by painting on black. I used my art journal by Dyan Reaveley, which is square and has great quality paper. Oil pastels and colored pencils work beautifully on this sturdy paper. I used these painted motifs to create a surface pattern design that can be purchased in wallpaper or fabric at Spoonflower. I love the dramatic impact that a black background delivers! I have a process video at the bottom of this post. Here is the surface pattern design that I ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Butterfly Painting
Butterflies are my favorite insect. They are beautiful, gentle, and don't bite you and inject poisonous venom into your bloodstream. :) There are so many color variations! I think this one is a Rajah Brooke's birdwing (sort of-kind of). I love using Sennelier's copper oil pastel for final details to represent the iridescent look in butterfly wings. I mostly used Artecho oil pastels in my Strathmore toned tan paper art journal. This first photo shows the butterfly before adding the shiny ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Hoopoe Painting
The hoopoe is such an interesting bird! They are colorful and have a "crown" that they can raise and lower. Sadly, we don't have these in Michigan, but what fun they are to paint! I've used Artecho oil pastels in my Strathmore toned tan paper journal. I didn't add a background this time, but the oil pastels were perfect for the bits of colors in the feathers. You can use colored pencils for the small detail work. I have a short video at the bottom of the post and a few step-by-step ... View the Post
