Fall is my favorite! This art journal painting is a snapshot into an autumnal wood littered with mushrooms. Oil pastels are perfect for this dreamy, creamy style. I have a video at the bottom of the post! I feel like I want to walk into those woods to see what furry creatures are scampering about. It seems the perfect place for little mouse houses and intelligent owls. It is no wonder that so many children's books are centered around woodland creatures! Here is a pile of goodness! Grab ... Dramatic Florals with Procreate!
I love my art supplies. I paint in oil pastels, watercolor, inks, acrylic, gouache, and colored pencils, but sometimes there are advantages to digital art. In my opinion, it can never replace the tactile loveliness of creating texture and the process itself is therapeutic, but there is a place for digital art. It is also enjoyable and efficient in its own way. I have used the Sketchbook app, but this past several months, I have really enjoyed using Procreate on my iPad. Check out the dramatic ... Oil Pastel Fairy Vase with Lemons (3 of 3 ) VIDEO
Here is the third fairy vase painting with my oil pastels. This one has happy, yellow lemons in a mostly blue and white vase. A video is at the bottom of the post! Using colored pencils for detail work is a great way to use you art supplies to their best advantage. The play well together! :) I used my Strathmore toned paper art journal. This paper is lovely and works well with many art supplies! I taped off the sides with washi for a clean edge finish. The pink gradient backdrop is ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Painting Flowers in a Jug & VIDEO
Rust is pretty. Is that weird to say? I love the color variance and gritty texture. This rusty jug has a history to tell. It has seen some things! :) I painted this in my Strathmore toned paper journal in oil pastels. The creamy goodness of the pastels is great for creating vibrant, textural layers. I even got out my Pentels for this one. Their smaller diameter is great for getting in some details. They are cheap and cheerful. :) There is a VIDEO at the bottom of the post if you want to see ... Brownie Date Balls for Dessert! VIDEO
These are so easy to make, delicious, and great for when you don't want to heat up the house. One of my favorite cookbooks right now is The Feel Good Foodie cookbook. I have made several things from it, and everything has been amazingly delicious! You can pop them into glass containers (or freezer bags) for storage. Just grab a few out when needed! :) I love getting my dates from Azure Standard. The quality is amazing! Check out the video below for the easy process. :) ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Bird Painting on Toned Paper
The beauty of oil pastels is that they can be layered in a chunkier style, or blended for ultra smoothness. They are not delicate, as watercolor tends to be for example, but bring bold color and versatility. This bird was painted on my favorite Strathmore toned tan paper. I used washi tape for the "clean edge reveal" at the end! :) I was in the mood for bright, happy colors. I used a combination of Mungyo Gallery oil pastels, Paul Rubens, and Artecho. They are all great and bring wonderful color ... View the Post
