I love painting little florals in my art journal when I don't have a concrete plan. Sometimes, I am more focused on color palette exploration than anything else. I have used these flowers to create a surface design pattern that you can see below. It's available in fabric and wallpaper (HERE) I love the deep burgundy instead of traditional brown for the branches. It still is acting like a neutral, but still is something different. I LOVE painting and drawing on Strathmore toned paper! It works ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Potted Flowers Painting
Grab that art journal! I love using my oil pastels on Strathmore toned tan paper! I mostly used Paul Rubens and Artecho pastels this time, but most brands will be fine. I was inspired by a floral arrangement in a weathered container that I saw in a magazine. I also have new fabric in a Spoonflower challenge. You can see that below! :) Oil pastels are so creamy, vibrant, and textural. They are a great medium to integrate into you work, whether by themselves or in conjunction with ... View the Post
Fashion Templates: The Peplum Jacket
I love these figure drawing fashion templates! They have been great for teaching, as well as my own art journal designs. They give a great starting point if proportions throw you off. With a few tweaks and a great eraser, you can design various poses and erase the underlines as you add clothes on top.Art Talens journal, but I love a feminine, tailored style with modest lines. I used my Tombow brush markers in my Art Talens journal. The paper in this art journal works well with colored ... View the Post
Inktense Pencil Paintings & VIDEO
Lest you forget that I love my Inktense pencils, here is a cupcake and some flowers for my art journal! :) I also created a surface pattern design for fabric and home decor that can be seen below. I used an art journal with watercolor paper and some simple paintbrushes. Inktense pencils are bold and vibrant with or without activating with water. For the flowers, I dropped in some shiny gold! (see video) There is a green version of this pattern HERE at Spoonflower! ... View the Post
Watercolor Blocks in My Art Journal
There are days when I feel like I can only paint simple shapes. Sometimes, our creativity is spent, but then refreshed with simple things. I taped off my square art journal and used watercolors to paint squares and rectangles. After the initial layer dried, I went back in with more layers and doodled with my white gel pen. Fun! There is a short video at the bottom of the post. :) Go in with more of the same color for a tone-on-tone effect! A white gel pen is fun to use for ... View the Post
Two Oil Pastel Mini Landscape Paintings
We have had a lot of thunderstorms this summer! That was the inspiration for these two mini landscapes on Strathmore toned paper. I used mostly Mungyo Gallery and Mont Marte oil pastels, but grab what you have! Oil pastels are such a delight to use! When you create coordinating paintings, they will look great on a wall together! I love nature and houses, especially with so much of the painting being sky. Below, is a snapshot of some of my pastels. I just love to look at art ... View the Post
