When I was young, a hot air balloon landed in the field behind my house. It was amazing to see one up close! I also love the vintage style balloons, like in the Wizard of Oz. I've used oil pastels here, along with gold touches from the Sennelier Iridescent set. Add even more details with colored pencils! They work really well with oil pastels. ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Interior Design Room Portrait Painting
I love homes, both because of their interior design and architecture. It embodies practical art, which I think is the best! I drew a portion of a bedroom in my Strathmore toned paper art journal. I started with my Prismacolor colored pencils, then moved to oil pastels. I have a short video at the bottom of the post. Here are some pictures of steps along the way. I don't always know where I'm going, but we get there. :) ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Bird on Fruit Branch & VIDEO
Color palettes in nature really inspire me! I love the teals, greens, and pops of red and coral. I used my toned tan art journal and Prismacolor colored pencils for the underpainting. The drawing was in a bit of a different perspective for me, so I though the pencils would help me out later with my layering. When you add the oil pastels the colors really come to life, as seen in the following photos. Of course, my color pencil job was not thorough, as I knew I would be layering the pastels ... Autumnal Cards!
Between my poor health and other business work, I don't get to make as many cards these days. I miss my paper crafting! I feel like everything I do takes longer now. With Autumn so close (yay!), these leafy cards may inspire you in your own paper crafting. I love the mini wooden buttons. :) The other card features a fun heat embossing technique. My favorite is Ranger Ink gold embossing powder. Just dip your die cuts in some embossing powder and melt. I love the partially embossed look. ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Himalayan Blue Poppy & Video
These were fun flowers to paint! I used mostly Paul Rubens and Artecho oil pastels. I love painting flowers, then combining them in a surface pattern design. I sell many of these as fabric and wallpaper at Spoonflower and Raspberry Creek Designs. I love surrounding myself with flowers, and since I can't seem to grow them successfully, I paint them! :) Here is a yellow flower, because yellow makes me happy. :) Flowers, flowers everywhere! ... Oil Pastel River Landscape Painting
A peaceful river is the subject of this oil pastel landscape. I mostly used Artecho and Paul Rubens Haiya, as they were on my desk. I tried to keep it to a few simple colors. Sometimes, that is less overwhelming than staring at sets of 120 colors. :) I believe that I used Canson Graduate cream paper here, but I can't remember for sure. You could definitely use my favorite toned paper! Don't forget to check out the video below, as well as my channel with well over 1,000 ... View the Post
