I fell in love with Jane Austen novels while I was in college. Her character studies and keen observance of human nature is accurate and comedic. The Regency Era is full of interesting things, but it's fashion can be beautiful! I used my art journal with Tombow markers and colored pencils for this drawing. The use of fashion templates make it easy! Here are the traceable, acrylic templates as well! These templates are a small investment with endless use. If figure drawing and ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Church Graveyard & VIDEO
I have a video at the bottom of this post for this autumnal landscape painting, using Paul Rubens and Mungyo oil pastels! These pictures show the initial sketch and some of the colored pencil underpainting. I love the grays and autumnal colors! Fall is right around the corner. :) I love graveyards. They are peaceful and full of history. They are also a reminder of the shortness of this life and to be sure we are prepared for eternity afterwards. There is a beauty in the stillness of graveyards-a ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Pink Peony & VIDEO
Fluffy flowers are a bit of a show-off in the botanical world. They definitely catch the eye in the garden. :) I am using my Strathmore toned paper art journal for this fun peony in oil pastels. I mostly used Mungyo, Artecho, and Paul Rubens. I have a video below! I created a cheerful pattern design for fabric and wallpaper, which can be seen below! I love pinks and yellows together. Those colors really life the spirits. You can try painting this in another color profile. ... View the Post
Colored Pencils on Cards & Video
It is fun to create your own "stamped images" on your cards. Draw freehand or color in stamped images with colored pencils. Alcohol markers get a lot of love, but colored pencils are amazing on kraft and colored cardstock. I also love to use my Derwent Inktense pencils on Bristol. Then, they can be activated for a watercolor look. Shop your craft room! Prismacolor colored pencils are among my favorites! You can get them open stock! I have a video below and photo examples. Colored pencils were ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Impressionism Florals & Short Video
I love impressionism in art. Sometimes, we have to focus on the portrayal of texture and color more than an exact replica of the real thing. At least, that's my opinion. Trust me, there is a place for realism in art, but sometimes I just want the impression of the idea of something. I love this color palette and fluffiness of the flowers. I used mostly Paul Rubens and Artecho oil pastels. I have a short video below, as well as a mockup of what this would look like on a wall. ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Orange Tulips in Vase & VIDEO
I have always loved blue and white French China. The amazing, bright color of that blue goes with so many color palettes! Here, I have gone for orange tulips on my Strathmore toned paper. I love the creamy texture that oil pastels deliver! They keep your paintings from two-dimensional, flatness. Getting details while using oil pastels can be tricky at times, but they work very well with colored pencils. Check out the video at the bottom of this post! :) ... View the Post
