I love using paintings to create surface pattern designs! It is a great way to get multiple uses out of one thing. My Strathmore toned tan paper art journal is my go-to for colored pencil and oil pastel paintings. :) Below, I have some fun mockups using the seamless pattern. Mungyo Gallery oil pastels are a great product, both in sturdy creaminess and price! You can get the fan design now at Spoonflower! ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Country Church & VIDEO
I am not a city girl. I like green things and fresh air. :) Painting this little country church in oil pastels brought me into an era of more stability and peace (though there is always trouble around the corner). I don't like it when churches look like generic office buildings. I sketched with a charcoal pencil, then created the foundation with my Prismacolor colored pencils. As to oil pastels, I used Artecho, Paul Rubens, and Mungyo Gallery. They all play well together! You can use good ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Fence & Field Painting ~Short Video~
Paint your peace! I love the gentle colors and the simple, worn fence in this painting. I feel like I am peering over into the promised land! :) Oil pastels are a great choice for creamy landscapes. Their ability to blend and soft lines make them a great choice for nature scenes. I have used a variety of oil pastels like Paul Rubens, Mungyo Gallery, and Artecho. Each brand bring a great palette and varying level of firmness. I love using Strathmore toned papers, but oil pastels work well on ... View the Post
Arrtx Acrylic Markers: Perfume Bottle!
These acrylic paint markers are a great way to create waterproof card fronts and entries in art journals. The Arrtx brand has a great choice of colors, and the paint is smooth and satisfying to use. I used Bristol paper, which is a great choice for making card fronts, as the color of the paper is whiter than most watercolor papers, and the markers glide on it! I created some botanicals coming out of a fashionable perfume bottle. It was fun to layer in the various colors! :) The brush ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Tiny Pink Home
You may often hear me say that I love tiny things. Puppies, kittens, journals, houses. :) Tiny everything is cute! Sometimes it can be a challenge to paint tiny things with oil pastels. I taped off a small square in my art journal and made myself a reference of a pink house in the woods. I thought it turned out to be quite cheerful. I used Strathmore toned paper and (mostly) Paul Rubens Haiya oil pastels for this one. Another trick is to used colored pencils for some of the little details. I ... View the Post
Oil Pastel Bright Florals & VIDEO
I love bright florals! These summery flowers have the cheeriest colors to brighten your day. It looks very textured because I was trying to use up some watercolor paper that I didn't like using with my watercolors. Of course, a watercolor underpainting would have been fine in this situation. I really like the seafoam color backdrop that sets off the oranges and corals. Don't be afraid to be bold! :) I used mostly Artecho oil pastels. They are a great price and the range of color is great! Even ... View the Post
