Abstract Canvas ~ Create Color

I hope you are having a colorful, creative day! I've been sorting through the studio and came upon a few canvases that were unfinished. If I have leftover paint after a session, I will often brush it onto a canvas, so as not to waste it. It's nice to have a little color there already. A blank, white canvas can sometimes be intimidating. SHORT VIDEO HERE! I used stencils, a stiff brush, and some finger painting to create the marks. ... View the Post

Ugly Art & What To Do About It & Short Video

Sometimes, our paintings don't turn out very well. Sometimes, they are just plain ugly! :) The good news is that you can just paint right over it! The picture below didn't come out anywhere near what I was imaging in my head, so I proceeded to collage some papers over the top, add paint, and a Stabilo pencil. SHORT VIDEO HERE! SHORT VIDEO HERE! You may think my new version is still ugly, but the point is that it is drastically different. ... View the Post

Drawing Caran D’Ache Neocolor II & Video

I used Caran D'Ache Neocolor II aquarelle crayons to add color to this drawing. VIDEO HERE! I love Lyra (and still do), but these were also full of pigment. Their thin barrel makes it easy to add details as well. I created highlights at the end with a white Posca acrylic paint pen. ... View the Post

Mermaid & Short Video

This quick mermaid was a part of #the100dayproject that gets you creating everyday. I think it is healthy to do small drawings and paintings to keep the creative juices flowing. I've kept her face simple, and I used gouache with some gold watercolor highlights. SHORT VIDEO! ... View the Post

Acrylic Painting ~ Sunset Near the Water

I love sunsets, so I grabbed some sunset/nightime colors and painted this square canvas. It's simple, but it was fun. HERE IS THE SHORT VIDEO! Sometimes simple is best when you only have a short time to paint. I used Liquitex, Arteza, and Winsor & Newton acrylic paints. I only used about four colors. The lemon yellow isn't pictured, but I did add it in the end, as well as Mars black. ... View the Post

In-Process Face

Faces can be hard. I still have a LONG way to go in learning to draw them, but I like her thoughtful expression in this one. I need to finish it, but sometimes I have to step away and come back to a piece to discern in which direction I should go. I used colored pencils and Inktense pencils here, with a light watercolor wash in the background. ... View the Post
