I really enjoyed painting this farm landscape in oil pastels. I love the calm colors and texture that the oil pastels bring. I like to make my backgrounds creamy to offset the more textural parts. It is a simple color palette for a simple scene. I wish society would slow down and appreciate people and skills over pleasure. Quick Kuretake Watercolor Florals on Canson
There are days that I just need to create a bunch of smaller paintings to satisfy my creative itch. Kuretake paints are wonderful to use, with their big pans and rich colors. I have almost all of the sets! :) My favorites are the moody shadows and graphite colors. I love that you can buy individual pans, since there are certain colors that I use quite often. This art journal entry is some still life fruit. I decided to work in my Dylusions black paper journal from Ranger ink. Instead of using the whole page, I divided it in half to save for another entry, since this one was kind of long and skinny. Oil Pastel Hummingbird on Toned Tan Paper
I am often in the mood to paint birds, as they come in so many delicate shapes and colors. Oil pastels are the perfect medium to mimic textural feathers. I made the background creamy and smooth, and used my Derwent Inktense pencils for some details. Oil Pastel Old-Fashioned Beehive & VIDEO
I love old-fashioned beehives, and this one is done in a medieval style. I painted this with oil pastels in my square, black Dylusions art journal. I taped off the sides with washi and started building up the various sections. I also used my colored pencils to draw textural lines through the pastels. I have a VIDEO down below! I love using oil pastels in my black Dylusions art journal. I have the square one, which is a fun size with plenty of room for fluffy flowers! I primarily used Artecho oil pastels, but any would be wonderful on this thick paper. My camera light is making the appear not as black as it is in real life.
